Cleaning of rainwater from highway at Silkeborg

The run-off from the highway at Silkeborg is discharged to a very sensitive recipient. For that reason a special filter system have been developed. The filter system shall tie dissolved heavy metals and degrade other environmentally harmful substances. The facility consists of fossil lime,
peat and orwegian rock.

The filter system will consist of material, that are full of calcium, aluminum and iron and therefor very effective in binding heavy metals and phosphorus, says Professor Jes Vollertsen from University of Aalborg, who is the chairman of the research group Urban  Water Technology. He is pointing out, that studies of the materials ability to purify water shows, that for all substances  the purification  is brought below the limited values before discharge.
