Decoupling of road run-off and infiltration in a rain garden in Middelfart

The city of Middelfart are underway with a major project about climate adoption of the neighborhood Kongebro. One of the measures are decoupling of rainwater from the main sewage system. On the upper part of Adlerhusvej sidewalks and roadways is replaced and the run off from the road is decoupled from the sewer system. The run off from the road is led to a large rain garden/ infiltration basin built on an unused part of the cemetery, which lies along the road. The rain garden has an overflow to a large green area at the city stadium that is to be converted to an ”activity forrest”. The site is designed as a forest with different bridges and separate places for a wide range of activities for citizens of all ages. The place is also designed to collection and store rainwater from the surrounding areas as a part of Climate City Middelfarts activity on climate adoption. The run off from the side road Skovbrynet is also decoupled and led to a smaller rain garden with overflow to the rain garden at the cemetery.
